The Indiana Pacers have reached a new multiyear agreement with head coach Rick Carlisle, league insider Marc Stein reported on August 19, 2025.
Carlisle guided Indiana to its first NBA Finals appearance since 2000 this past spring, capping a steady climb since his return to the franchise in 2021. The Pacers went 25-57 in his first season back, then improved to 35 wins in 2022-23, 47 in 2023-24, and 50 victories in 2024-25.
Under Carlisle, Indiana has made back-to-back deep postseason runs, reaching the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals before advancing to the 2025 NBA Finals.
Counting his current and previous stints with the Pacers (2003-07), Carlisle owns a 338-318 (.515) regular-season record and a 41-34 (.547) playoff mark in Indiana, qualifying for the postseason in five of eight seasons.
Including head-coaching stops in Detroit and Dallas since 2001, the 63-year-old has logged 15 additional seasons and 1,197 regular-season games on NBA sidelines.
Specific terms of the new contract were not disclosed. Carlisle originally signed a four-year deal in 2021 and received an extension in 2023, indicating he remains under contract with the Pacers for several more seasons.
