The Indiana Pacers and Chicago Bulls have expressed interest in acquiring Pelicans second-year center Yves Missi, according to Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com. Afseth reports that Indiana has gained some momentum in negotiations, with Bennedict Mathurin emerging as a potential piece heading to New Orleans. A similar scenario was noted earlier in the week by Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.
Injury updates
Head coach Rick Carlisle said Friday that Mathurin, sidelined by a right thumb sprain, completed a workout Thursday and was scheduled for another session before the night’s matchup with the Pelicans. Although the fourth-year wing missed that game, Carlisle described his progress as significant and said there is “a chance” he returns during the club’s five-game road trip that opens Saturday in Detroit.
Carlisle also provided an update on Isaiah Jackson. The third-year big man, out since December 23 with a concussion, has cleared the league’s protocol and is now focusing on conditioning. “He’s closer,” Carlisle said. “He’ll be on the trip. He’s doing well.”
Kyle Guy heads overseas
Former NBA guard Kyle Guy reached a buyout agreement with the Noblesville Boom, the Pacers’ G League affiliate, to pursue a contract in China, Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files reports. “We try to put our players in the best position possible,” Boom general manager Chris Taylor told Agness. “This is a heck of an opportunity.”
Guy, 28, briefly stepped away from playing to explore coaching roles before joining Noblesville this season. He led the Boom with averages of 21.1 points and 7.6 assists, along with 4.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals, while shooting .450 from the field and .372 from three in 20 games (40.0 minutes per contest).
