The Indiana Pacers have turned their attention to New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado as they continue searching for additional help in the backcourt, league sources told Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Indiana has been scrambling to fill the void left by Tyrese Haliburton, who is out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon. The team cycled through several veterans during the preseason, waived James Wiseman to sign Mac McClung, and later replaced McClung with Monte Morris after Morris recovered from a calf strain.
Head coach Rick Carlisle said McClung stood out in an Oct. 27 free-agent workout that also featured Morris and Cody Martin. Martin’s 10-day hardship contract expires Friday, and he is not expected to return unless the Pacers secure another hardship exception. He missed Thursday’s game against Phoenix because of illness.
Alvarado’s Contract and Production
Alvarado, 27, went undrafted in 2021 after a standout career at Georgia Tech. He is earning $4.5 million this season and holds a player option worth the same amount for 2026-27.
Through 10 games, the 6-foot guard is averaging 6.7 points, 2.6 assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.0 steal in 18.9 minutes while shooting 42.3% from the field, 42.9% from three-point range, and 80.0% at the free-throw line.
The Pacers remain active on both the free-agent and trade fronts as they look to stabilize their point-guard rotation.
