The Indiana Pacers have brought back center James Wiseman on a 10-day contract obtained through the NBA’s hardship exception, the club announced in a press release.

To create room for the move, Indiana terminated fellow hardship signee Gabe McGlothan’s 10-day agreement after just four days.

Wiseman, 24, is expected to be in uniform for Saturday’s matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans. The second overall pick in the 2020 draft was waived by the Pacers roughly a week into the current season after the roster was hit by multiple backcourt injuries. He had re-signed with Indiana during the offseason on a two-year minimum-salary deal that included a $1 million partial guarantee and a team option for 2026-27.

The 7-footer has endured significant health setbacks during his career. He missed the entire 2021-22 season following knee surgery and suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Indiana’s 2024-25 opener, sidelining him for the rest of that campaign. Across 149 NBA games with Golden State, Detroit and Indiana, Wiseman owns career averages of 9.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in 18.9 minutes.

The Pacers have dealt with extensive injuries early in 2025-26, but all three of their current centers—Jay Huff, Isaiah Jackson and Tony Bradley—have been available for every game so far. That streak is in jeopardy after Bradley was diagnosed with a fractured right thumb; he is listed as questionable for Saturday’s contest. Wiseman’s addition provides insurance should Bradley be forced to miss time.
