The Indiana Pacers will be without standout guard Bennedict Mathurin on Saturday after he suffered a sprain to his right big toe, head coach Rick Carlisle told reporters.

According to Fieldhouse Files reporter Scott Agness, the injury was confirmed earlier in the day. The Indianapolis Star added that Mathurin is currently wearing a walking boot and is scheduled to undergo imaging on Sunday in Dallas.

The setback comes at a difficult time for Indiana’s depleted backcourt. Tyrese Haliburton and T.J. McConnell are already out, and center Myles Turner is no longer on the roster. Mathurin had moved into a primary role, averaging 31.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 54.8 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from three-point range and 88.5 percent at the line through the Pacers’ first two games.

Mathurin joins an injury list that also includes Andrew Nembhard, Johnny Furphy, Kam Jones and Taelon Peter. Carlisle did not provide a timetable for the rookie’s return, noting that the team will have more information after the imaging results are reviewed.
