The Indiana Pacers revealed on Friday, August 22, 2025, that assistant coach Mike Weinar is leaving the organization by mutual agreement.

Weinar, 41, has worked alongside head coach Rick Carlisle for most of his NBA career. He spent 13 seasons under Carlisle in Dallas—including the final four as an assistant—before joining Indiana in 2021 when Carlisle returned to the Pacers.

Carlisle praised Weinar’s character and résumé in a team statement, noting the coach’s role in two NCAA titles with the University of Florida (2006, 2007), the Mavericks’ 2011 NBA championship, and this season’s run to the NBA Finals with Indiana.

According to reporter Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files, Weinar was heavily involved in the Pacers’ offensive schemes, game-planning, and late-game strategy.

Earlier this offseason, Weinar was reportedly a candidate to become the New York Knicks’ lead assistant and offensive coordinator under new head coach Mike Brown. He later withdrew from consideration, and the Knicks filled the role with veteran coach Chris Jent.
