New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby has advanced in his recovery from a left hamstring strain and is now permitted to participate in controlled contact drills and three-on-three scrimmages, head coach Mike Brown said Sunday.

“He’s doing some on-court work and we’re continuing to monitor him. We’re not going to rush him,” Brown told reporters before the team’s November 30 matchup with the Toronto Raptors.

Anunoby, 28, has not yet been cleared for full contact, and the Knicks have not provided a timetable for his return. Brown nevertheless labeled the latest activities “a good step” in the forward’s rehabilitation process.

The veteran defender strained his hamstring during the first quarter of a November 14 game against Miami. Two days later, the club announced he would be re-evaluated in two weeks; Sunday’s update is the first since that initial assessment.

Before the injury, Anunoby was averaging 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.1 steals across 11 games, logging 33.5 minutes per contest while shooting .483 from the field, .397 from three-point range, and .760 at the line.

With Anunoby sidelined, Josh Hart has absorbed a larger share of minutes and offensive opportunities.
