New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby left Friday night’s matchup against the Miami Heat in the first quarter after suffering a left hamstring strain, the team announced. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post, the 28-year-old appeared to be injured on a fast break when he missed a layup and immediately grabbed the back of his leg before heading to the locker room. Jordan Clarkson opened the second half in Anunoby’s place.

Anunoby’s return timetable has not been determined. Teams commonly list soft-tissue issues as “tightness” or “soreness” before further evaluation; labeling it a strain so quickly could indicate a more significant setback.

Through 11 games this season, the one-time All-Defensive selection was averaging 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals over 33.5 minutes, shooting 48.3 percent from the field, 39.7 percent from three and 76.0 percent at the foul line.

With Anunoby sidelined, head coach Mike Brown can distribute minutes to Josh Hart, Landry Shamet and Clarkson.

Brunson Also Out

Starting guard Jalen Brunson missed Friday’s contest as well after sustaining a Grade 1 right ankle sprain late in Wednesday’s loss to Orlando. Asked why Brunson remained on the floor with New York trailing by 16 points and 1:54 left, Brown said, “I’ve been a part of some crazy, crazy comebacks… A stop and two threes, and it’s a two-possession game. That’s all I was trying to do, is win the game.”

Miles McBride started at point guard in Brunson’s absence.
