The Denver Nuggets have waived guards Javante McCoy and Justyn Hamilton, according to Friday’s NBA transaction log.
McCoy, 25, had signed an Exhibit 10 contract with Denver on Sept. 21. The 6-foot-5 guard spent the past three seasons in the G League following a five-year collegiate career at Boston University. With the Motor City Cruise last season, he averaged 10.3 points and 2.3 rebounds while shooting 25% from three-point range.
Hamilton’s agreement with the Nuggets had not been reported prior to the waiver notice. Earlier in the day, the Oklahoma City Blue and the Grand Rapids Gold—the G League affiliates of the Thunder and Nuggets, respectively—completed a trade sending Hamilton’s returning rights to Grand Rapids in exchange for the rights to Andrew Funk and a second-round pick.
The timing of the waiver suggests Hamilton received a sign-and-waive deal designed to keep him with Grand Rapids. Such arrangements allow a player to earn a bonus of up to $85,300 if he remains with the Gold for at least 60 days.
The 6-foot-10 Hamilton appeared in 26 games for the Blue last season, posting averages of 7.7 points and 5.8 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per contest.
Both players are now free agents and eligible to sign with other teams or return to the G League.
