The Denver Nuggets have reached an agreement with 11-year point guard Tyus Jones, agent Kevin Bradbury told ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Denver had one available standard roster slot and will fill it with the 27-year-old on a prorated veteran’s minimum contract that runs through the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign.
Jones became a free agent Saturday when the Dallas Mavericks waived him ahead of the league’s Sunday deadline, preserving his eligibility for the postseason.
Reliable floor general
Recognized for his careful ball handling and low turnover rate, Jones owns career averages of 7.3 points and 4.3 assists across 738 regular-season appearances. His NBA résumé includes stints with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Memphis Grizzlies, Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic and Mavericks.
Busy season
This year began with Jones on Orlando’s roster, but he was moved through several trades before logging eight games in Dallas prior to his release.
Denver, currently positioned to defend last year’s championship, adds backcourt depth and playoff experience with the signing.
