Denver Nuggets assistant coach David Adelman said he has no interest in seeing the Portland Trail Blazers leave Oregon, pushing back against recent relocation chatter linked to the franchise.
Adelman’s ties to the city run deep. He grew up in the Portland area while his father, Rick Adelman, guided the Blazers to NBA Finals appearances in 1990 and 1992. The organization has not returned to the championship round since.
Speculation about the team’s future intensified after reports that ownership is seeking significant public funding to renovate Moda Center ahead of a possible sale to businessman Tom Dundon. Those discussions prompted rumors that the club could eventually move if funding or a sale does not materialize.
Speaking this week, Adelman dismissed the idea. “They have to keep the Blazers here,” he said, emphasizing Portland’s longstanding support for professional basketball and his personal connection to the market.
The Trail Blazers have not publicly commented on relocation possibilities. Local officials are still evaluating funding options for arena upgrades.
