Minneapolis, MN — Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch said Anthony Edwards is functioning as the team’s primary ball-handler even after Donte DiVincenzo replaced Mike Conley in the 2025/26 opening lineup. “Anthony’s probably more of our point guard than Donte is,” Finch told reporters, noting that Edwards has the ball in crucial moments.

The three-time All-Star acknowledged the adjustment. “I just have to get used to being a point guard, going to get the rock at the end of the game, bringing it up even when they pressure,” Edwards said.

Blazers exit NBA Cup but value high-stakes test

The Trail Blazers were knocked out of the NBA Cup on Wednesday after falling to San Antonio, a loss that cost them the top seed in their group. Forward Deni Avdija paced Portland with 37 points, eight assists and six rebounds. “We wanted that game,” Avdija said. “It felt like a first taste of a playoff game, and we can learn a lot from it.”

Watson changes representation ahead of restricted free agency

Nuggets forward Peyton Watson confirmed he left Excel Sports and signed with Klutch Sports Group a couple of weeks ago. Speaking Wednesday, the 2022 first-round pick said Klutch’s attention to detail appealed to him as he approaches restricted free agency. “There’s a big opportunity for me on the court this year, and if I do my job, it makes my agent’s job easier,” Watson explained.

Strawther to miss sixth consecutive contest

Denver will be without third-year wing Julian Strawther for the sixth straight game on Friday against San Antonio due to lower-back injury management. Strawther has seldom seen action this season following the free-agent arrivals of Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr.
