The Brooklyn Nets announced that center Day’Ron Sharpe has torn the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb and will undergo surgery that will sideline him for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

Sharpe, 24, was in the midst of his most productive NBA campaign. The 6’10” big man averaged career bests across several categories, posting 8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals in 18.7 minutes per game. He appeared in 62 contests—also a personal high—and connected on 60.1 percent of his field-goal attempts and 67.8 percent of his free throws.

Serving primarily as the backup to starting center Nic Claxton, Sharpe drew seven starts when Claxton was unavailable. According to team figures, Brooklyn registered a –4.3 net rating when Sharpe was on the floor, the strongest mark among regular rotation players; without him, the team’s net rating dropped to –11.4. It is the third consecutive season in which the Nets have posted better numbers during his minutes.

A native of North Carolina, Sharpe played one collegiate season at the University of North Carolina before the Nets selected him with the 29th pick in the 2021 draft.
