The Brooklyn Nets appear set to enter training camp without another blockbuster transaction. A league source told the New York Post’s Brian Lewis that the club’s recent agreements with center Day’Ron Sharpe and forward Ziaire Williams signal the roster is “likely set for now.”
Brooklyn still sits just below the league’s salary floor and must absorb roughly $7 million before Opening Night. One option, according to the source, would involve waiving three players on non-guaranteed minimum contracts and using the resulting flexibility to take on money in a smaller trade. Even after such a move, the Nets could carry about $15.5 million in cap space into the season.
ESPN Ranks Most Impactful Newcomers
Kevin Durant’s switch to the Houston Rockets tops ESPN’s annual list of offseason arrivals expected to make the biggest impact. Guard Desmond Bane (Orlando Magic) holds the No. 2 spot, followed by forward Cam Johnson (Denver Nuggets). In a surprise at No. 4, new New York Knicks head coach Mike Brown is viewed as facing “title-or-bust” pressure, per analysts Chris Herring and Kevin Pelton. Los Angeles Lakers center Deandre Ayton rounds out the top five.
Roman Sorkin Drawing NBA Interest
Maccabi Tel Aviv center Roman Sorkin, 28, has surfaced on the radar of the Portland Trail Blazers, New York Knicks and Miami Heat after averaging 16.5 points and 6.0 rebounds for Israel in EuroBasket, reports SNY’s Ian Begley. Sorkin also contributed 12.9 points and 4.1 boards in EuroLeague play last season.
The 6-foot-10 big man, who spent four college seasons at Oregon, signed a five-year extension with Maccabi in 2023 that runs through 2029. Any shift to the NBA would require a buyout or applicable contract clause. Of the interested clubs, Miami and New York possess clearer roster flexibility, while Portland would need to cut or trade a guaranteed player to create space.
