The Brooklyn Nets have yet to mount an aggressive push to lock up guard Cam Thomas on a long-term contract, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Thomas, a restricted free agent entering his fifth NBA season, averaged 22.5 points in 66 games in 2023-24 and 24.0 points last season, though hamstring issues limited him to 25 appearances. Despite that scoring output, league interest in a sign-and-trade has been modest, Fischer reported.
A recent survey by The Athletic of 16 NBA front-office executives suggested Thomas lags behind fellow restricted free agents Josh Giddey, Jonathan Kuminga and Quentin Grimes in perceived value. While at least 15 respondents were prepared to offer each of those three players deals of three years or more, only eight indicated the same for Thomas.
Fischer noted that Thomas could be the most likely among those RFAs to accept his $5.9 million qualifying offer and enter unrestricted free agency in 2026.
Last month Fischer also reported that Brooklyn’s best proposal to date was a two-year contract with a team option, valued only slightly above the $14.1 million mid-level exception. Thomas is believed to be seeking an annual salary of at least $20 million.
