The Brooklyn Nets will no longer sign guard Ricky Council IV, reversing course on a previously reported partially guaranteed agreement, according to Nets Daily on Sept. 21, 2025.
Council, 23, became available after the Philadelphia 76ers waived him earlier this offseason. In two seasons with Philadelphia, the 6-foot-6 wing averaged 6.7 points and 2.5 rebounds across 14.7 minutes per game. While his three-point shooting remained inconsistent at both the college and NBA levels, he gained a reputation as an explosive transition scorer during his rookie campaign.
It remains uncertain where Council will look for his next opportunity.
Nets Daily also reported that Chinese forward Fanbo Zeng is expected to join Brooklyn on an Exhibit 10 contract rather than compete for a two-way slot. The 6-foot-11 Zeng posted 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks while shooting 40.5 percent from beyond the arc last season with the Beijing Ducks.
