The Brooklyn Nets have not mounted a strong push to lock guard Cam Thomas into a multi-year agreement, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Thomas, 22, is a restricted free agent. League sources told Fischer the 2021 first-round pick is increasingly open to accepting his $6 million qualifying offer for 2024-25, which would allow him to enter unrestricted free agency next summer.
The lack of movement comes after a season in which Thomas appeared in 25 games and averaged 24.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 43.8 percent from the field, 34.9 percent from three-point range and 88.1 percent at the foul line.
Market view of Thomas
Grant Afseth of FastbreakJournal.com reported that several teams project Thomas primarily as a scoring option off the bench rather than a full-time starter. An unnamed veteran scout told Afseth the guard seeks “star money” but is often viewed as a “microwave scorer.” Another Eastern Conference scout added that clubs weighing an annual salary in the $25–30 million range expect additional defensive commitment, playmaking and overall impact before making that investment.
Selected 27th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft out of LSU, Thomas owns career averages of 15.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists across three seasons in Brooklyn.
