The Brooklyn Nets are expected to explore a blockbuster bid for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo once the 2026/27 season approaches, according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post.
Lewis reports that multiple league sources believe Brooklyn’s front office plans to be fully competitive by 2026/27, positioning the franchise to pursue the two-time MVP despite its current rebuild. “Then this is their moment,” one source told the Post. “They could sure make the best offer.”
Brooklyn’s draft capital is seen as the key to any potential proposal. On ESPN’s “Hoop Collective” podcast, Brian Windhorst noted that the Nets possess 10 tradable first-round picks—and could have 11 available on draft night—giving the club flexibility to construct an aggressive package.
Personnel going the other way remains speculative. One source cited by Lewis presumed Michael Porter Jr. would headline an outgoing deal, while an Eastern Conference assistant general manager suggested Porter could remain in Brooklyn, with Nic Claxton and Terance Mann included instead for salary matching.
“They have some good future picks,” the assistant GM said, adding that the Nets could theoretically move up to five future first-rounders while retaining this year’s selection if they decided to fully commit to a pursuit of Antetokounmpo.
No formal talks have been reported, and Milwaukee’s stance on moving its franchise player has not been addressed. For now, Brooklyn is viewed around the league as a potential suitor armed with the assets to make a compelling offer should the opportunity arise.
