Brooklyn, N.Y., Feb. — The Brooklyn Nets have signed rookie power forward Grant Nelson to a 10-day contract, the team announced Tuesday at 8:58 a.m. ET.
Nelson, 23, had been playing for the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s NBA G League affiliate. At 7 feet, the undrafted Alabama product is averaging 11.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 19.1 minutes over 23 G League appearances, while shooting 55.0% from the field and 80.9% at the free-throw line.
The deal, worth $73,153 for a first-year player, gives Nelson his first opportunity to appear in an NBA game. Brooklyn had an opening on its 15-man roster after acquiring and waiving Hunter Tyson on Feb. 5, leaving no corresponding move necessary.
Nelson originally joined the Nets on a non-guaranteed training-camp contract in October and was waived at the end of the preseason before reporting to Long Island for his rookie campaign.
