NBA Trade Scenario Would Send Jonathan Kuminga to Kings for Malik Monk, Pick

A preseason trade concept circulating on Hoops Wire envisions the Golden State Warriors shipping forward Jonathan Kuminga to the Sacramento Kings and receiving guard Malik Monk plus a lightly protected first-round draft choice (or pick swap).
The proposal
• Golden State receives: Malik Monk and a future first-round pick or pick swap
• Sacramento receives: Jonathan Kuminga
Why the Warriors might consider it
Kuminga, 22, has not reached a new agreement with the Warriors, and his representation has referenced the possibility of accepting only the qualifying offer next summer—a scenario that could let him depart for nothing in 2025. Swapping him now would secure a proven scorer in Monk, who is midway through a four-year, $78 million contract and would add bench punch behind Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler. The additional draft asset would provide roster-building flexibility.
Why the Kings could be interested
Sacramento has been linked to Kuminga throughout the offseason, and reports suggest the forward is open to the move. Giving up Monk—one of several guards on the roster—could be worthwhile if Kuminga’s athletic ceiling materializes.
The players involved
Jonathan Kuminga: 6-foot-7, averaged 15.3 points and 4.6 rebounds last season. Despite flashes of All-Star potential, he has had on-court friction with head coach Steve Kerr and rejected multiple contract offers.
Malik Monk: 6-foot-3, averaged 17.2 points and 5.6 assists for Sacramento in 2023-24. A regular Sixth Man of the Year contender, the 27-year-old is viewed as a steady, long-term contributor.
Training camps open in a little over a week, and while this swap remains strictly hypothetical, the continued uncertainty around Kuminga’s future keeps the idea alive.
