NBA suspends Suns forward Dillon Brooks for one game after 16th technical foul

The NBA has issued a one-game suspension without pay to Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks after he received his 16th technical foul of the season, triggering the league’s automatic penalty.

The decisive technical was assessed with 6:37 remaining in the second quarter of Wednesday’s 136-109 defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Brooks will serve the suspension on Feb. 19, when the Suns visit the San Antonio Spurs.

Under NBA regulations, the 16-technical threshold mandates an immediate one-game ban; every two additional technicals result in another game lost.

Brooks is known for a physical, combative style of play that frequently draws whistles—a reputation the Suns accepted when they added him to the roster. Around the league, several other players are nearing the same disciplinary line: Luka Doncic has 13 technical fouls, Isaiah Stewart has 12, and Draymond Green has 11. Stewart is already in the midst of a separate seven-game suspension for his role in a recent Pistons-Hornets altercation.

For Brooks, the suspension serves as a caution that further outbursts could lead to additional time on the sidelines as the season progresses.
