Dec. 17, 2023 — The Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder remain atop their respective conferences as the NBA released its latest standings.
Eastern Conference
The Pistons hold the league’s second-best record at 21-5, keeping a 2.5-game cushion over the New York Knicks (18-7). Toronto (16-11) sits 5.5 games back, while Boston and Orlando are tied at 15-11, six games off the lead. Philadelphia (14-11) trails by 6.5 games, the same margin that separates Cleveland (15-12) and Atlanta (15-12) from first place. Miami rounds out the current top nine at 14-12, seven games behind Detroit.
Milwaukee (11-16), Chicago (10-15), Charlotte (8-18), Brooklyn (7-18), Indiana (6-20) and Washington (4-20) occupy the bottom six spots, with the Wizards 16 games back of the conference leaders.
Western Conference
Oklahoma City continues to set the pace league-wide at 24-2. Denver (19-6) trails by 4.5 games, while both the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs hold 18-7 marks, 5.5 games out. Houston stands at 16-7, followed by Minnesota (17-9) seven games behind the Thunder. Phoenix (14-12) sits 10 games back in seventh.
The Golden State Warriors (13-14), Memphis Grizzlies (12-14) and Utah Jazz (10-15) round out the next three positions. Portland (10-16), Dallas (10-17), Sacramento (6-20), the Los Angeles Clippers (6-20) and New Orleans (5-22) complete the conference table, with the Pelicans 19.5 games behind Oklahoma City.
The standings will continue to shift as teams approach the midway point of the regular season.
