Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro is once again surfacing in trade speculation, and this time the chatter centers on the Dallas Mavericks, according to a report from Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale.
Favale listed the 2-6 Mavericks—tied with the New Orleans Pelicans for the Western Conference’s worst record—as a club in need of additional scoring punch. He argued that Herro could provide that boost as a secondary creator alongside rookie standout Cooper Flagg and a healthy Kyrie Irving.
“Dallas doesn’t have to worry about Herro’s potential redundancies alongside a healthy Kyrie Irving,” Favale wrote, noting that the 24-year-old guard has ranked in the 75th percentile or higher in spot-up three-point efficiency in four of his six NBA seasons, per BBall Index. Favale added that Herro remains “one of the more underrated from-scratch shot-makers” and that any defensive shortcomings could be masked by the size of Flagg, Anthony Davis, and the rest of the Mavericks’ frontcourt.
Financial hurdles
The Mavericks sit just $1.3 million below the league’s second tax apron, while the Heat are within $2 million of the luxury-tax threshold. Favale suggested a third team would likely be required to balance salaries, with Dallas potentially sending Max Christie and future first-round picks to facilitate a deal.
Herro’s status
Herro, currently sidelined after ankle surgery, is earning $31 million this season and is owed $33 million in 2024-25. The former All-Star averaged 23.9 points per game last year and holds no trade clause or veto power, enabling Miami to move him unilaterally before the trade deadline if it chooses.
