Washington, D.C. — With the Wizards projected by ESPN’s Basketball Power Index to finish with the NBA’s worst record, the franchise is focusing on player development rather than wins and losses. A key decision now centers on how often injured guard Trae Young will play once he is cleared, balancing his chemistry-building with long-term caution.

The league has granted Washington a $1.77 million Disabled Player Exception after forward Cam Whitmore was ruled out for the season because of a blood clot in his shoulder, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. The exception expires on March 10, and league sources expect it to remain unused given its modest size and the team’s other available exceptions.

Clippers Juggle Roster Math

Los Angeles — The Clippers are looking to open two standard roster spots so they can convert two-way players Kobe Sanders and Jordan Miller, reports Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints. Trade chatter has centered on veteran guard Chris Paul and forward Kobe Brown; waiving either would not provide the necessary cap relief, making a trade the likelier path.

Knicks Seek Landing Spot for Yabusele

New York — The Knicks continue to gauge interest in forward Guerschon Yabusele, Stefan Bondy of the New York Post writes. Yabusele is averaging fewer than three points while shooting below 40 percent, and his upcoming player option complicates any deal. San Antonio is considered a potential destination because of his national-team connection with Victor Wembanyama, but no agreement is imminent.

The Knicks remain open to offers, hoping another club views a fresh start as the key to unlocking Yabusele’s potential.
