NBA front offices continue to maneuver ahead of training camp, with the Golden State Warriors, Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks all weighing roster moves while several restricted free agents remain unsigned.
Warriors Waiting on Kuminga Before Filling Roster
Golden State still has multiple vacancies but is not expected to finalize additions until forward Jonathan Kuminga makes a decision on his contract. Once that situation is resolved, veterans Seth Curry and Malcolm Brogdon are among the leading candidates to join the club.
League sources told The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer that swingman Cody Martin — most recently with the Hornets and Suns — is also on the Warriors’ radar. Martin is said to be considering whether to wait on Golden State or explore other options when training camps open.
The Warriors have also been linked to Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton and Gary Payton II, all of whom could sign once Kuminga’s status is settled. Kuminga has until Oct. 1 to decide whether to accept his qualifying offer.
Bulls Remain Focused on Josh Giddey
Chicago has kept one roster spot open for restricted free-agent guard Josh Giddey. The Bulls have reportedly offered a four-year contract worth roughly $80 million. Giddey, however, is seeking about $30 million annually, leaving a $10 million per-year gap. Like Kuminga, Giddey faces an Oct. 1 deadline to accept his qualifying offer.
Other Restricted Free Agents on the Clock
Philadelphia’s Quentin Grimes and Brooklyn’s Cam Thomas are working under the same Oct. 1 timetable. Sources said Thomas is viewed as a candidate to take the one-year qualifying offer and test unrestricted free agency in 2026.
Timberwolves Interested in Bones Hyland Reunion
Minnesota still has two open spots and is considering a return of guard Bones Hyland, who split last season between Denver and the Timberwolves. A new deal remains in play, according to Fischer.
Knicks Monitoring Malik Beasley
New York enters the offseason’s next phase with three roster slots available. The Knicks have already been tied to Brogdon, Landry Shamet and Ben Simmons, and SNY’s Ian Begley reports the team is also eyeing Malik Beasley.
Beasley, cleared Friday in a federal gambling investigation, finished last season with Detroit. The Pistons had prepared a three-year, $42 million contract for the guard before the probe surfaced. New York’s interest dates back to its first-round playoff series against Detroit and could be revisited now that Beasley is back on the market.
