Front-office officials around the NBA believe the Dallas Mavericks will solicit offers for forward Anthony Davis ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, veteran reporter Marc Stein wrote for The Stein Line.

The Mavericks have not indicated any plans publicly, but league sentiment is that Davis will be available. The 32-year-old missed his ninth consecutive game Sunday because of a left calf strain and is expected to remain sidelined for another 7–10 days.

According to Stein, Dallas hopes a productive December and January will raise Davis’s value to the level the franchise envisioned when it made him the centerpiece of last season’s blockbuster deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. Davis is in the first year of a three-season, $175 million contract he signed with the Lakers shortly before being dealt to Dallas.

Other Mavericks Under Discussion

Stein added that center Daniel Gafford is viewed by rival teams as the Mavericks’ most attainable piece, though the current injuries to Davis and rookie big man Dereck Lively II complicate Dallas’s front-court depth. Gafford, 25, is earning $14.4 million this season in the first year of a three-year, $54.4 million extension.

Conditioning and Availability

League sources told the Dallas Hoops Journal that interested clubs want Davis to shed weight to restore his trademark mobility. He reportedly arrived at training camp at 268 pounds—about 15 pounds heavier than his final listed weight with the Lakers.

Since the trade, Davis has appeared in 14 games for Dallas. He is making $54.1 million this season, is owed $58.5 million in 2024-25, and holds a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28.

The Mavericks’ front office remains in transition after the recent dismissal of general manager Nico Harrison, the executive who orchestrated last season’s deal that brought Davis and guard Max Christie to Dallas in exchange for Luka Dončić.
