Feb. — Around the league, several teams are weighing significant roster moves with the NBA trade deadline one week away.
Pacers fielding offers for Bennedict Mathurin
League executives say Indiana is actively listening to proposals for guard Bennedict Mathurin and could move him before next Thursday’s deadline. The 2022 lottery pick has appeared in 25 games after overcoming a right thumb sprain and turf toe, averaging 17.7 points in 31.8 minutes during the final year of his rookie contract.
The Pacers already have more than $177 million in guaranteed salary committed for next season and are reportedly reluctant to extend a large restricted-free-agent offer to Mathurin this summer. If a deal is not struck now, a sign-and-trade in the offseason remains a possibility. New Orleans has shown interest, but multiple clubs are monitoring the situation.
Pelicans monitoring Dejounte Murray’s situation
Sources indicate guard Dejounte Murray and his representation at Klutch Sports would welcome a change of scenery. Any move is complicated: Murray is rehabbing an Achilles tear and has yet to play this season, and he is owed $94 million over the next three years. With Jordan Poole and Jeremiah Fears joining the backcourt last offseason, finding the right fit and trade partner before the deadline could prove difficult.
Trail Blazers open to offers, but not holding a fire sale
Portland has signaled it is willing to discuss veterans Jerami Grant and Jrue Holiday, yet does not view itself as a seller. Team officials are described as “opportunistic listeners” who would move Holiday only for a return that strengthens the current roster rather than initiates a rebuild.
The trade window closes next Thursday at 3 p.m. ET, leaving front offices a short runway to decide whether to pivot or stand pat.
