Report: Mavericks Evaluating Options, Not Actively Offering Anthony Davis or Klay Thompson

The Dallas Mavericks have informed other NBA teams that Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, Daniel Gafford and D’Angelo Russell are not currently on the trade block, according to Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com.

Mavericks Take Wait-and-See Approach

Sources told Afseth that the front office is in an “evaluation phase,” studying both its roster and the wider trade landscape rather than positioning itself as a seller ahead of the Feb. 5 deadline. Any potential deal would need to fit the club’s long-term plan.

Kyrie Irving has been excluded from preliminary talks. Team officials reportedly want to pair the veteran guard with rookie forward Cooper Flagg once Irving is healthy, believing his presence could speed Flagg’s development.

Anthony Davis Interest Remains Complicated

The Pistons, Hawks and Raptors have all expressed interest in Davis, Afseth noted, but league sources question his on-court fit in Detroit or Atlanta. Toronto is viewed as a cleaner match, yet a move is not considered imminent.

“The Mavericks are going to want to see how this team looks with AD and Kyrie,” one source said. “If the market isn’t right, a deal won’t happen.”

Thompson Valued in Locker Room

Although Thompson’s performance has fluctuated, Afseth reported that he remains a stabilizing presence amid roster changes following the Luka Dončić trade. Should Dallas eventually explore offers, the organization is expected to respect his preference for joining a contender.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Situation Quiet

There have been no meaningful updates on Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Rival executives still view the New York Knicks as the frontrunner if Milwaukee entertains offers, with the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs also monitoring.

Ja Morant Not on the Market

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant, back from a 10-game absence, is not available, according to Afseth. If circumstances change, the Heat are not seen as a logical landing spot. Meanwhile, the Rockets, Timberwolves and Kings are tracking the point-guard market in general as the deadline approaches.

Pacers Do Homework on Walker Kessler

The Indiana Pacers have conducted background checks on Utah Jazz center Walker Kessler. Sources said All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton is a fan of the 22-year-old, who is out for the season after shoulder surgery. Kessler reportedly sought an extension exceeding $120 million before the season and is set to become a restricted free agent next summer.
