Despite growing chatter around the league, the Memphis Grizzlies are not actively pursuing a trade involving guard Ja Morant, according to a report from Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

League executives and coaches have recently begun asking whether Memphis might consider moving the two-time All-Star, but sources close to the organization told Fischer there has been no indication the front office is entertaining offers at this time.

On ESPN’s “Hoop Collective” podcast, reporter Tim Bontemps said he does not expect a “robust market” if Morant were officially made available. Veteran writer Marc Spears added that several general managers expressed minimal interest in acquiring the 24-year-old, even last offseason when the Grizzlies quietly gauged value on multiple players. One current head coach told Spears, “I’m not sure I’d want to coach him.”

Teams’ hesitation centers on several factors: Morant is owed maximum-level salary for the next three seasons, has already served a 34-game suspension, carries a notable injury history, and has not posted significant statistical growth. In a league increasingly prioritizing versatile wings, smaller, ball-dominant guards are generating less aggressive bidding.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings are said to be monitoring Morant’s status, but no meaningful discussions have emerged. For now, Memphis appears to value the former Rookie of the Year more than any potential return currently available on the market.
