Milwaukee, WI — Giannis Antetokounmpo voiced doubts about the Milwaukee Bucks’ championship prospects during a July meeting in Athens with general manager Jon Horst and his agent, Giorgos Panou, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

League sources told ESPN that the Bucks entered the discussion concerned the two-time MVP might formally ask for a trade. Antetokounmpo did not request a move, but the conversation marked the first time he and his representatives actively explored outside options.

The New York Knicks emerged as the primary destination under consideration, sources said. Milwaukee and New York held preliminary talks in August, yet discussions stalled; the Bucks had no desire to trade their franchise cornerstone, and the Knicks lacked sufficient draft capital to present a compelling offer.

Antetokounmpo declined to shut down speculation at the team’s media day, acknowledging he is still evaluating the best path to another title. The 2025-26 campaign is widely viewed around the league as a critical juncture for Milwaukee’s ability to keep its superstar.
