Moisture Forces Postponement of Heat-Bulls Matchup in Chicago

The NBA called off Thursday night’s game between the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls after officials deemed the United Center floor unsafe because of persistent moisture.

Tip-off was scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT, but players discovered slick spots during warmups. Arena staff tried for nearly two hours to dry the surface with towels and mops, yet the condensation remained.

The league announced the postponement at 8:55 p.m. CT. A makeup date has not been set.

According to The Athletic, the ice sheet used for the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks, who played in the building Wednesday, began melting under the hardwood. Combined with unseasonably warm temperatures in the mid-50s Fahrenheit and heavy rain outside, humidity inside the arena was reported to be nearly double the normal level for a basketball game.
