WASHINGTON — The Wizards intend to keep newly acquired forward Anthony Davis on the sideline for the remainder of the 2025-26 season as he rehabilitates groin and hand injuries, according to league sources.
The former Mavericks star was obtained just before the trade deadline, but team officials prefer a cautious approach that also protects their top-eight-protected 2026 first-round draft pick. Davis’ hand issue alone was expected to keep him out for most of February, and he has dealt with multiple ailments since last year.
Several clubs had shown interest in the 31-year-old earlier in the season; concerns over his health ultimately allowed Washington to finalize the deal. Guard Trae Young, acquired last month, has yet to debut for the Wizards and is not expected back until after the All-Star break.
In a phone conversation with The Athletic, Davis said meetings with Washington’s ownership and front office were “great” but emphasized he still hopes to compete for a title, wherever that may be.
Knicks
Head coach Mike Brown expressed strong approval of recent backcourt addition Jose Alvarado.
“He just brings a level of toughness,” Brown told the New York Post. “His energy is unmatched. What he can do defensively, his pace, his ability to touch the paint and make others better… he fits.”
Brown added that the former Pelicans guard shoots better than advertised and will help New York generate quicker offensive sets.
Trail Blazers
Portland made minimal moves at the deadline, a decision welcomed by players and interim coach Tiago Splitter.
“There’s a little bit of tension, but I’m glad everybody’s back,” Splitter said. “Everybody’s happy to be here.”
The Blazers did add wing Vit Krejci and expect rookie guard Scoot Henderson to return from a hamstring injury. Forward Deni Avdija is also nearing clearance, giving Portland a more stable rotation for the final 30 games.
