Forward Jonathan Kuminga said he feels “at peace” after signing a two-year, $46.8 million contract to end a lengthy stint in restricted free agency. The 23-year-old told Andscape’s Marc J. Spears he no longer worries about trade speculation and is focused on improvement. “I don’t think about things like that. I just try to get better,” Kuminga said. Head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged the fit has been “interesting” but believes the former No. 7 overall pick still has an important role. “He just turned 23. He has plenty of basketball ahead,” Kerr noted.
Miami Heat
Precious Achiuwa returned to the franchise that drafted him, agreeing to a non-guaranteed training-camp deal after spending most of the summer unsigned. The forward/center said the Heat’s culture matches his game. “There’s some unfinished business,” Achiuwa told the Miami Herald. “A lot of tenacity, a lot of intensity. So I feel right at home here.”
Toronto Raptors
Rookie Collin Murray-Boyles, selected No. 9 overall, has impressed early with his defense, passing and three-point confidence, according to The Athletic. Head coach Darko Rajakovic said the team adjusted the 20-year-old’s shooting form and “he’s looking for those shots and not shying away.” The only setback is a right elbow contusion suffered Friday against Boston; X-rays were negative, but an MRI is expected after Murray-Boyles left the arena in visible pain, Sportsnet reported.
