MINNEAPOLIS — A sluggish offensive showing against Memphis has the Minnesota Timberwolves re-examining their quest to join the Western Conference elite. Wednesday’s 116-107 home defeat featured poor shot selection, turnovers and general execution, head coach Chris Finch told reporters. “Our offensive decision-making was awful,” Finch said, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune’s Chris Hine.

The Timberwolves, who made a postseason breakthrough last year, face a quick turnaround on Friday when they host Oklahoma City. The Thunder topped Minnesota 113-105 on Nov. 29 and have displayed greater steadiness on both ends all season.

Celtics Weigh Trade Options

As the trade window approaches, the Boston Celtics are balancing roster needs with financial constraints. Brian Robb of MassLive.com reported that another true center tops the wish list, providing depth and stability to the frontcourt. Management must also decide whether to remain above the luxury-tax threshold or explore moves that would dip the club below it, a familiar dilemma for a franchise with championship aspirations and a watchful eye on future flexibility.

Spurs Continue Talent Auditions

The San Antonio Spurs added veteran guard Elfrid Payton to their G League affiliate ahead of this weekend’s NBA G League Showcase, Marc Stein of The Stein Line reported. Payton joins recently signed big man Christian Koloko in a series of low-risk evaluations aimed at identifying potential fits for a roster focused on development and optionality.
