MINNEAPOLIS — Anthony Edwards returned from a three-game injury layoff and scored 26 points, including a tiebreaking three-pointer with 38.5 seconds remaining, to lift the Minnesota Timberwolves past the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, 112-107, on Friday night.

Edwards added 12 rebounds, then clinched the result with a defensive board and a late steal on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who finished with 35 points and seven assists. The victory moved Minnesota to 18-10, while Oklahoma City slipped to 25-3 after dropping two of its last three following a 24-1 start.

Target Center buzzed early when head coach Chris Finch was ejected midway through the first quarter for arguing with officials. Despite a 3-for-15 shooting night from Julius Randle, his missed free throw in the closing seconds left the door open for Edwards’ heroics.

SAN ANTONIO — Victor Wembanyama recorded his 100th consecutive regular-season game with at least one block, tallying 26 points, 12 assists and two rejections as the San Antonio Spurs rolled past the Atlanta Hawks, 126-98.

The 19-year-old rookie is only the third player to reach the 100-game block streak, joining Hall of Famers Patrick Ewing and Dikembe Mutombo. San Antonio improved to 20-7, comfortably ahead of last season’s pace.

NEW YORK — Tyrese Maxey poured in 30 points to lead the Philadelphia 76ers over the New York Knicks, 116-107, halting the Knicks’ six-game winning streak.

With Joel Embiid sidelined, Andre Drummond stepped in for 14 points and 13 rebounds, knocking down three of four attempts from beyond the arc. New York celebrated its NBA Cup title in a pregame ceremony, but the festivities faded as Philadelphia handed the Knicks a rare home defeat.
