SAN ANTONIO — Victor Wembanyama is expected to travel with the San Antonio Spurs for Tuesday’s matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, head coach Mitch Johnson said after the rookie missed his second consecutive game Saturday with a hyperextended left knee. “He’s looking really good,” Johnson noted, emphasizing that the decision to play will be made closer to tipoff.
Spurs
The club continues to monitor Wembanyama’s knee, opting for caution as the 7-foot-4 centerpiece recovers. While his availability remains uncertain, forward Keldon Johnson continues to serve as the team’s emotional leader, a role Johnson described as “the heart and soul of the team.”
Rockets
Houston’s front line took another hit when Alperen Sengun sprained his right ankle a little more than a minute into Saturday’s game in Dallas. The center, who had just returned from a calf strain, was ruled out shortly afterward. Backup big man Steven Adams missed his second straight contest with an ankle injury, leaving the Rockets thin in the paint.
Mavericks
Dallas snapped a four-game losing streak behind a dominant outing from Anthony Davis, who recorded 26 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks in 39 minutes. It was the 36th time in his career he has posted at least 25 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks, tying Tim Duncan for seventh all-time in that category.
Second-year guard Max Christie added 24 points and seven rebounds, remarking that his three dunks “might have been a career high” as the Mavericks secured the victory.
