Pelicans
The New Orleans Pelicans played without forward Zion Williamson on Monday and fell hard to the Boston Celtics, 122–90. Williamson sat out with a left foot bone contusion sustained Friday when he landed on Victor Wembanyama’s foot during a put-back dunk against San Antonio.
Williamson told NOLA.com the injury is “day-to-day” and not expected to sideline him long-term. He took part in a limited practice Tuesday and is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game in Denver.
The loss dropped New Orleans to 0-3, intensifying scrutiny on head coach Willie Green. “I’m disappointed in the lack of toughness on the floor,” Green said after the blowout defeat. “It’s one thing to not win a game; it’s another to get punked on your home floor.”
Thunder
Despite missing Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren and others, the Oklahoma City Thunder rallied past the Sacramento Kings, 107–101, on Monday to move to 5-0. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander powered the comeback with 31 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, while Aaron Wiggins and Ajay Mitchell each scored 18.
“It hasn’t been a masterpiece of execution, but we’ve flexed our resilience muscle,” head coach Mark Daigneault said. Oklahoma City hosts the Washington Wizards on Thursday.
Bucks
The Milwaukee Bucks improved to 3-1 by defeating the New York Knicks, 121-111, on Monday. Giannis Antetokounmpo paced the victory with 37 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Ryan Rollins contributed 25 points and Gary Trent Jr. added 11.
Milwaukee welcomes the Golden State Warriors to Fiserv Forum on Thursday for another early-season test.
