NEW ORLEANS — Early returns on the New Orleans Pelicans’ summer acquisition of guard Jordan Poole have been positive, with team officials citing his on- and off-ball versatility and championship résumé.

“He won a ring. He knows what it takes to get there, and having that experience on this team is big for us,” forward Zion Williamson said.

Poole’s shot-creation ability addresses a long-standing need for a steady backcourt scorer alongside Williamson. Team personnel also praised the 24-year-old’s work ethic and leadership since arriving from Golden State.

In the front office, Hall of Famer Joe Dumars has completed his first months as executive vice president of basketball operations after leaving a role at the NBA league office. His presence has been credited with adding immediate credibility and energy to the organization.

Raptors Pick Up Options on Dick, Walter

TORONTO — The Toronto Raptors exercised their 2026-27 team options on wing Gradey Dick and guard JaKobe Walter, the club announced.

  • Dick’s fourth-year option is valued at $7.13 million.
  • Walter’s third-year option is worth $3.81 million.

Selected 13th overall in 2023, Dick started 54 games last season and averaged 14.4 points on 43.6 percent shooting. Walter, the 19th pick in 2024, contributed 8.6 points and 3.1 rebounds as a rookie but will miss the season opener because of illness. Both players are projected to provide floor spacing behind a revamped front line that now features Brandon Ingram.

Pacers Retain Walker, Sheppard

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Pacers confirmed they have picked up their 2026-27 team options on forwards Jarace Walker and Ben Sheppard.

  • Walker’s fourth-year option carries an $8.48 million cap hit.
  • Sheppard’s fourth-year option is set at $5.03 million.

Walker, the eighth pick in 2023, averaged 6.1 points and 3.1 rebounds in 75 appearances last season. Sheppard, drafted 26th overall the same year, posted 5.3 points and 2.8 boards in 63 games and played in 21 postseason contests during Indiana’s run to the NBA Finals. Head coach Rick Carlisle has used both as energy pieces off the bench, valuing their defensive versatility.
