NEW YORK — Denver forward Michael Porter Jr. said he now approaches his career “one year at a time” after early back problems but emphasized he intends to keep playing as long as possible.
“I want to play as long as I can,” Porter told the New York Post’s Brian Lewis, explaining remarks he made recently about uncertainty over his future. “It’s just easier in my head to be like, ‘Give it my all this year and, when it’s over, see where I’m at mentally and reevaluate.’”
The 26-year-old credited psychotherapist Nicole Sachs with helping him manage the mental side of pain, which he believes has contributed to improved health over the past few seasons.
Nuggets
Teammate Christian Braun told Sportskeeda’s Mark Medina he shares Nikola Jokić’s pledge to stay in Denver “forever.”
“Being a Nugget means a lot to me. I want to win as a Nugget. I don’t want to win anywhere else,” the 23-year-old guard said. Braun, eligible for a rookie-scale extension until Oct. 20, added that he will leave contract talks to his representatives while focusing on defending the franchise’s 2023 NBA title.
G League
The NBA G League and the Next Gen Basketball Players Union (NGBPU) have reached a tentative agreement on the league’s first collective bargaining agreement, according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps.
The deal features salary increases, higher pay for players who are signed and later waived by NBA teams, and fewer restrictions on player movement. Founded in 2020, the NGBPU held its first General Assembly earlier this year.
“This CBA negotiation represents a critical opportunity to elevate the professional basketball experience for our players,” union secretary-treasurer Yauhen Massalski said when talks began. The agreement still requires final ratification from both the league and the union.
