ATLANTA — The Hawks announced that guard Trae Young is expected to resume practice next week as he progresses through reconditioning drills following a right knee MCL sprain sustained on Oct. 29 against Brooklyn. Despite external speculation about a possible trade, team officials remain focused on Young’s comeback and believe his presence will strengthen the roster once he is cleared for game action. Young has said he hopes to play later this month.

Pelicans

NEW ORLEANS — Zion Williamson practiced Saturday and will be listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup in Chicago, head coach James Borrego told reporters. The update arrives just 11 days after ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the forward was expected to miss at least three weeks with a Grade 2 right adductor strain.

Williamson has been sidelined for the past six games and also missed eight contests in November with a left hamstring strain. In 10 appearances this season, the 2019 No. 1 overall pick is averaging 22.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.6 steals in just under 31 minutes per game.

The Xinjiang Flying Tigers of China’s CBA have reached an agreement with guard Kevon Harris, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto. Harris, 28, was waived by Houston on Dec. 2 to clear a roster spot for Tyler Smith after spending time on a two-way contract. He averaged 19.4 points and 6.1 rebounds in eight G League appearances for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers this season.

Harris suited up for 36 NBA games with Orlando from 2022–24, posting 4.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in 12.9 minutes per contest. He earned MVP honors at the 2023 NBAGL Next Up Game and recorded 19.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.4 steals in 44 outings for the College Park Skyhawks last season before signing with the Rockets in July.
