Memphis, Tenn. — The Memphis Grizzlies have reversed a 4-11 start by winning five of their last six contests, a turnaround that began when second-year center Zach Edey made his season debut in mid-November.
Edey delivered a career-best performance Sunday in Sacramento, finishing with 32 points, 17 rebounds and five blocks while shooting 16-for-20 from the field. Memphis outscored the Kings by 25 points in Edey’s 32 minutes during the eight-point victory.
“He shifts everything we do,” head coach Tuomas Iisalo said, crediting both Edey and the roster for exploiting the matchup advantage inside.
Across the Grizzlies’ last three wins, Edey is averaging 19.3 points, 17.0 rebounds and 3.3 blocks, converting nearly 72 percent of his shots in 32 minutes per game.
Spurs
San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama (calf) and Stephon Castle (hip) remain sidelined but have started on-court work, the club confirmed Monday. Neither rookie will accompany the team to Orlando for Wednesday’s back-to-back, and their status for an upcoming four-game road trip is still undecided.
Pelicans
Two days before a strained adductor was diagnosed, New Orleans forward Zion Williamson said he felt better physically than at any point since his amateur career.
“I haven’t felt like this since college, high school,” Williamson said Sunday.
Interim head coach James Borrego praised Williamson’s play and emphasized leadership as the forward’s next area of growth. “He’s obviously a talent, but the more he can lean into leadership and grow with his teammates, that’s where he wants to go,” Borrego noted.
The Pelicans await Williamson’s return while continuing to navigate multiple injuries across the roster.
