The Memphis Grizzlies may soon regain a key piece of their frontcourt, while the Sacramento Kings preach patience amid early struggles and the Brooklyn Nets monitor a short-term injury.
Grizzlies
Rookie center Zach Edey, recovering from offseason surgery on his left ankle, has been moved from “out” to “doubtful” for Wednesday’s road game against the Boston Celtics, according to the Commercial Appeal. The 7-foot-4 big man has practiced in limited sessions over the past week and could be cleared as early as Saturday’s matchup in Cleveland.
Star guard Ja Morant is listed as questionable with right ankle soreness for the contest in Boston. “I’ve seen him [Edey] on the court working out,” teammate Kentavious Caldwell-Pope said. “I’m excited for him to be back.” Memphis continues to search for depth up front as injuries have piled up during the opening weeks of the season.
Kings
Assistant-turned-interim head coach Doug Christie delivered a brief but emphatic message before Tuesday’s 117-103 loss to the Denver Nuggets, telling reporters the 3-8 Kings are united and committed to improvement. “When I see the hate, the haters, the fakers — you keep that energy,” Christie said. “While you’re doing that, we’re gonna be working.”
Sacramento sits 27th in defensive rating and 29th in rebounding, underscoring the areas Christie said the club must address.
Nets
Brooklyn center DayRon Sharpe missed Tuesday’s victory over the Toronto Raptors with a left glute contusion. Head coach Jordi Fernandez called the injury “day-to-day” and “not a concern,” per the New York Daily News. Rookie forward Danny Wolf was recalled from the G League and logged minutes in Sharpe’s absence.
Each team will reassess its injury situations ahead of its next game later this week.
