Cleveland, Milwaukee and Portland — Recent roster moves are producing immediate storylines across the NBA, from James Harden’s measured approach with the Cavaliers to Cam Thomas’ scoring burst for the Bucks and a looming roster call in Portland.

Cavaliers

In his first game at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse since being acquired at the trade deadline, James Harden attempted only four shots but handed out 11 assists as Cleveland cruised to a 25-point victory. The Cavaliers are 3-0 with Harden, who said he is focused on blending in rather than dominating the ball. “I’ll play with y’all and do what y’all been doing and I’ll find my way,” he told reporters, adding, “I’m just here to win.”

Bucks

After scoring four points in his Milwaukee debut, recently claimed guard Cam Thomas delivered 46 points combined over road wins in Orlando and Oklahoma City while shooting 17-for-33. Head coach Doc Rivers, who previously coached high-scoring reserves Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams, said Thomas will be given “every opportunity” to expand his role. Thomas argued this week that his playmaking is undervalued, and Rivers noted the guard’s eagerness to contribute despite a few overdribbles.

Trail Blazers

Two-way forward Sidy Cissoko reached the 50-game NBA limit for two-way contracts Thursday in Utah, meaning Portland must convert him to a standard deal for him to appear again. Cissoko started his 24th game and logged 30 minutes in the win, heightening the urgency. The Blazers would have to waive a player to create space, and promoting fellow two-way standout Caleb Love would require a second roster spot. Rayan Rupert and Matisse Thybulle have surfaced as possible casualties, though no decision has been finalized.

Elsewhere, Denver could elevate Spencer Jones without a cut, Minnesota is taking its time with Johnny Juzang, and Houston may delay action on JD Davison. Teams have two weeks after the All-Star break to resolve their two-way situations.
