Giannis Antetokounmpo back at Bucks camp

Milwaukee forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has rejoined the Bucks after missing the first week of training camp because of COVID-19. The nine-time All-NBA selection has not yet taken contact in practice and did not play in Monday’s preseason win over the Miami Heat.

“Obviously, I think it took a toll on my body,” Antetokounmpo told reporters. “I’m not feeling 100 percent yet, physically. Just take it day by day, get back in shape. I was able to do some 5-on-0, run up and down a little bit. Tomorrow, a little better. I got 18 days until the first game, so I think I’ll be fine.”

Pistons weigh crowded bench picture

Detroit coach J.B. Bickerstaff said intense competition in training camp has made finalizing a rotation one of his most difficult tasks. “The way camp has gone, there’s not one guy out here that I can tell you doesn’t deserve to play,” Bickerstaff said. “Camp has been so, so competitive and guys have played at such a high level.”

Bickerstaff is evaluating veterans Javonte Green and Paul Reed, second-year forward Bobi Klintman, and rookie guard Chaz Lanier for the final spots on the bench.

Jazz add Abmas, McGriff; waive Crowl, Murrell

Utah made two roster changes Monday, waiving 7-footer Steven Crowl and guard Matthew Murrell before signing guard Max Abmas and forward Cameron McGriff. Crowl and Murrell were on Exhibit 10 contracts, and the new agreements for Abmas and McGriff are expected to feature similar terms.

Abmas completed his college career with Texas in 2023-24, then averaged 13.6 points and 4.2 assists last season for the G League’s Salt Lake City Stars. McGriff, a 6-foot-7 swingman, has been in the G League since 2021 and most recently produced 12.5 points and 6.2 rebounds for Noblesville.
