NBA Injury Roundup: Mitchell, Hart, Edwards, Isaac and Carter Sidelined

Cleveland guard Donovan Mitchell was ruled out shortly before Thursday’s game in Chicago after being downgraded from questionable because of a left eye contusion. The 6’2″ All-Star told reporters he struggled to see out of the injured eye during Tuesday’s win in Milwaukee but still found ways to contribute. Second-year wing Jaylon Tyson replaced him in the starting lineup.

Josh Hart will not play for the Knicks on Friday in Brooklyn. The swingman is dealing with patellofemoral pain syndrome — commonly called runner’s knee — in his right knee. Hart missed two contests last week with soreness in his left knee, and there is no indication the new issue is as severe as the condition that has kept Stephen Curry out for several weeks.

In Minnesota, the Timberwolves revealed that star guard Anthony Edwards also has patellofemoral pain syndrome in his right knee, in addition to the inflammation that has already sidelined him for one to two weeks. Team officials said the updated diagnosis does not alter his projected return timetable.

The Magic traveled to Charlotte on Thursday without two key frontcourt players. Center Wendell Carter Jr. remained out with a bruised left rib, while forward Jonathan Isaac sat due to a sprained left knee. Isaac, who lost two-and-a-half seasons to a torn ACL in the same knee, said doctors assured him the current injury is only a sprain. The 28-year-old will wait for swelling to subside before beginning to ramp up activity next week.
