The NBA has issued $35,000 fines to Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid and Atlanta Hawks forward Mouhamed Gueye for their involvement in an on-court altercation during Monday’s game in Atlanta, the league announced Tuesday.
The incident occurred on the first possession of the fourth quarter. Gueye committed a defensive foul on Reid, shoving the Timberwolves big man to the floor. Reid rose and confronted Gueye, and the two exchanged shoves while grabbing and holding each other’s jerseys.
Coaches and players from both teams quickly intervened to separate the pair. Officials assessed technical fouls to both players and ejected them. Minnesota went on to win the game, 138-116.
The financial penalty carries different weight for the two players. Gueye is earning the league minimum of $2,221,677 this season, the third year of a four-year deal with Atlanta. Reid signed a five-year, $125 million contract last offseason and will make $21,551,724 this year.
