ATLANTA, Aug. 13, 2025 — The Atlanta Hawks enter training camp with a revamped depth chart after an offseason highlighted by the arrival of Kristaps Porziņģis, a long-term deal for Nickeil Alexander-Walker and several draft-night maneuvers engineered by newly promoted general manager Onsi Saleh.

Key signings

The Hawks secured Alexander-Walker on a four-year, $60.65 million sign-and-trade from Minnesota that includes a 7.5% trade kicker and a fourth-year player option. Atlanta also used the non-taxpayer mid-level exception to add veteran shooter Luke Kennard on a one-year, $11 million contract.

Trade activity

Porziņģis headlined a three-team swap with Boston and Brooklyn, sending Terance Mann, Georges Niang, the rights to No. 22 pick Drake Powell and a 2031 Cleveland second-rounder outbound while bringing in the former Celtics big man and a 2026 second-round pick.

On draft night, Atlanta slid from No. 13 to No. 23, selecting University of Georgia forward Asa Newell and picking up the more favorable of New Orleans’ or Milwaukee’s 2026 first-round selections. Earlier, Clint Capela departed in a seven-team deal that delivered a now-waived David Roddy, a conditional 2031 second-round swap with Houston and $85,300 in cash.

An additional transaction sent a 2027 Cleveland second-rounder and $1.5 million to Minnesota in exchange for Alexander-Walker.

Draft and two-way additions

Newell signed his rookie scale contract worth $16.24 million over four years. Atlanta filled two-way slots with Eli Ndiaye, Jacob Toppin and Keaton Wallace, each receiving one-year deals carrying an $85,300 partial guarantee that rises to $318,218 on opening night.

Departures

Clint Capela (Rockets), Caris LeVert (Pistons), Garrison Mathews (unsigned) and Larry Nance Jr. (Cavaliers) headline the outgoing class, while Mann and Niang left in the Porziņģis exchange.

Cap position

Atlanta projects to carry roughly $182.3 million in salaries — over the $154.6 million cap yet below the $187.9 million tax threshold — and is hard-capped at $195.945 million. A $3.1 million slice of the mid-level exception, the full $5.134 million bi-annual exception and three trade exceptions, the largest valued at $13.10 million, remain available.

What’s next

The roster lists 13 guaranteed contracts, leaving at least one spot open and approximately $5.5 million of tax room. A previously reported one-year agreement with former Magic wing Caleb Houstan would satisfy the league-minimum requirement of 14 standard deals if finalized. Undrafted guard Lamont Butler is expected to vie for an Exhibit 10 deal after every two-way slot was filled.

Extension talks loom for Dyson Daniels (rookie-scale), Trae Young and Porziņģis. Daniels becomes extension-eligible this summer, while Young and Porziņģis can negotiate new pacts at any point during the season. No substantive discussions have been reported.

With Porziņģis teamed alongside Onyeka Okongwu and sharpshooters Alexander-Walker and Kennard joining a core that features Young, Zaccharie Risacher, Daniels and a healthy Jalen Johnson, Atlanta positions itself to build on last year’s 17-14 post-deadline push and subsequent play-in appearance.
