Authorities in Jackson Township, New Jersey, say the sister of Minnesota Timberwolves forward-center Naz Reid was killed in a shooting at an apartment complex on Saturday morning.
The victim, 28-year-old Toraya Reid, was found with multiple gunshot wounds at The Paragon apartments shortly before 11 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, Police Chief Matthew D. Kunz confirmed.
Shaquille Green, 29, of Jackson, was taken into custody and charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. Officials noted that no ongoing threat to the public exists.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said the investigation remains active.
Naz Reid, 25, recently completed another strong season with Minnesota, helping the Timberwolves reach the Western Conference Finals for the second consecutive year. News of his sister’s death has prompted messages of support from across the NBA community.
