The New Orleans Pelicans’ coaching hunt began almost immediately after Willie Green’s dismissal, with several names already linked to the vacancy, according to multiple reports.

Former UConn and Brooklyn Nets coach Kevin Ollie is on the organization’s initial shortlist, SNY.tv’s Ian Begley reported. Ollie guided the Huskies to the 2014 NCAA championship, later led Overtime Elite, and interviewed for the Detroit Pistons job last offseason.

Interim coach James Borrego, hired last summer as an emergency option, will also be considered for the full-time position, Begley added. Borrego stepped in after Saturday’s firing of Green but is not viewed as the automatic favorite.

ClutchPoints’ Chris Dodson noted that newly appointed executive vice president Joe Dumars, who is running the search, is quietly looking for a candidate capable of overhauling the team’s culture. Dodson identified Michael Malone and Taylor Jenkins as external possibilities he believes would fit that mandate.

New Orleans parted ways with Green following a 2-10 start, one season after the club endured a 21-61 campaign plagued by injuries. Owner Gayle Benson recently reiterated that all basketball decisions now flow directly through Dumars.
