Memphis guard Ja Morant came back from a one-game suspension on Wednesday but showed little enthusiasm following the Grizzlies’ 114-106 loss to the Detroit Pistons.
The two-time All-Star finished with 18 points and 10 assists, yet his postgame comments were as subdued as his body language. Asked about the circumstances surrounding his suspension, Morant repeatedly directed reporters to the team’s official statement, replying, “Y’all asked that question of them, huh? So, y’all know the answer to that.”
When pressed on whether he felt his usual joy on the court, the 24-year-old simply said, “No.” Earlier, he declined to address questions in the locker room before tipoff.
The scene mirrored Morant’s approach after Friday’s defeat to the Lakers, when he scored just eight points and said team staff had advised him not to play. Both appearances have underscored visible tension between the franchise cornerstone and the organization.
Morant is under contract with Memphis through the 2027-28 season, leaving the club in need of clarity as it navigates the ongoing discord.
